Associate Head Teacher

Main Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

1.      Develop, motivate and lead all staff to achieve the highest possible standards of education through the promotion of effective teaching and learning, a balanced curriculum, the provision of excellent pastoral care and support for students and a rich extra-curricular programme.

2.      Manage change effectively.

3.      Manage the school finances effectively; working closely with the accounts department and pro-actively seeking further funding opportunities.

4.      Ensure that job descriptions, contracts and performance management for all staff are based on clear roles and responsibilities, reviewed at least annually and consistent with current conditions of employment.

5.      Ensure that all policies are kept up to date, working closely with teaching staff and the Al Khair Education Services Team.

6.      Maintain sound procedures for the security, supervision and maintenance of the school environment, ensuring that all Health & Safety regulations are met and that the school premises are fit for purpose.

7.      Ensure that the school is managed in accordance with the Independent Schools Standards, Safeguarding, Equality Act and all other relevant legislation.

8.      Attend meetings with the Head of Education Services, provide regular reports on school developments and activities, and consult wherever appropriate, for example in the formulation of development plans.

9.      Keep abreast of changes in government policy and wider educational practices, and shall be accountable for the effectiveness, efficiency and quality outcomes of all aspects of the school, including financial and human resources, pupil behaviour and discipline, educational and support services, and marketing and communications.

10.  Lead the shaping of the school’s future and ensure that everyone is enabled to contribute effectively to the progress and development of the school.

11.  Support the busy and varied life of the school, attending its events and wider programme of activities.

12.  Ensure that child protection and safeguarding of students are given high priority at all times

 

Teaching, Learning, Curriculum and Standards

1.      Teaching duties as required.

2.      Lead in the design and implementation of a curriculum, which inspires and engages all pupils.

3.      Ensure a consistent and continuous school-wide focus on pupil assessment and achievement, using appropriate data and benchmarks to set, monitor and evaluate individual pupil progress.

4.      Take a lead in providing nurturing and attentive pastoral care for all pupils with support, where appropriate, from the wider school community.

5.      Take a lead in ensuring exemplary behaviour, attendance, and deal with disciplinary issues with support, where appropriate, from the wider school community.

6.      Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies.

7.      Prepare for inspection visits and liaise with OFSTED and the preparation and delivery of subsequent action plans.

 

Communication and Consultation

1.      Responsible for promoting the aims and values of the school and ensure effective communications with all stakeholders, including staff, pupils, parents, the community served by the school are developed and maintained.

2.      Oversee the management of the school website and other communications to the school community.

3.      Coordinate the school’s work with primary and secondary schools to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of learning and actively engage with other schools and agencies.

4.      Regularly and effectively, communicate the progress of every child’s learning to the parents, the Al Khair Education Services Team, OFSTED and further education bodies.

5.      Work with the Al Khair Education Services Team to provide information on all aspects of the school, its progress and intended development, and to promote the school within the wider community.

6.      Pro-actively recruit new students to the school, developing and maintaining data systems and procedures for this purpose, including arranging visits for prospective families.

 

Other

1.      Manage his /her own personal professional development, whilst ensuring the well-being of and a good work/life balance for, all personnel.

2.      Ensure that all responsibilities delegated by the Al Khair Education Services Team are carried out.

3.      Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably expected.

 

Other Responsibilities

1.      To uphold the school’s policy in respect of child protection and safeguarding matters.

2.      To support and encourage the school’s ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the Head of Education Services.

3.      To comply with all policies, procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.

4.      To hold a valid passport and be willing and able to travel extensively and at short notice.

5.      To have the flexibility to work additional hours as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role and meet the business needs.

6.      To be responsible for health and safety in the area of his/her control and ensure that he/she is familiar with Al Khair’s health and safety at work policy.

7.      To respect the unique contribution of every individual and work positively in an equal opportunity and diverse environment.

8.      The post holder will be required to apply for a full Disclosure check.

9.      Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post.
