Salary: Up to M6, Currently 4 days per week – increasing to full-time in September

Start Date: 16th April

Closing Date: 26th March – noon

Interview Date: 27th March

Paxton Academy Sports and Science opened in September 2014 with just Reception pupils and has been growing year on year. We currently have pupils up to year 3. We aim to deliver a core offer to our pupils which includes a wide array of learning opportunities through our extended provision and successful partnerships with other schools and organisations. Our curriculum is biased towards the teaching of our specialisms, ‘sports and science’ where the teaching of health and well-being is key. In addition pupils benefit from specialist teaching in modern foreign languages and music.

Pupils will leave us equipped with a firm grasp of key basic skills, a broad knowledge base and personal interests, shared moral values, excellent communication skills and the tools to be successful in secondary school and beyond.

With an extended day provision our expectations are high, both of our pupils and our teaching staff and with this, there is a collective drive for all-round excellence from the whole school community.

This is a rare opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about science (a science degree or background is desirable) to teach science across the academy as a specialist science teacher. This role will entail keeping abreast of developments in Science in the national curriculum, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and in the world of science in order to ensure practice is leading edge and to inspire pupils as well as other teachers. As a designated science hub school, you will liaise regularly with the Regional Science Network Partnership in order to organise termly meetings with teachers within the region. In addition you will be skilled in applying for grants to develop the school garden and to promote science initiatives throughout the school year.

When we move to permanent accommodation, we aim to have a unique science pod opening out on to outdoor space in order to promote pupils’ understanding of the connection between science and physical activity (sports science). We are fortunate to work in collaboration with established schools (both from the state and independent sector) in order to access specific expertise and resources. Our children absolutely love science and are keen to have an inspirational teacher to develop their interests.

If you feel you have strong subject knowledge in science and are passionate about science and helping to be a pioneer in this area, we would love to hear from you. Ensuring success across a range of abilities and backgrounds will take an understanding of resources, ICT and the classroom environment. Alongside your classroom teaching, you’ll also be expected to make a contribution to our integrated enrichment activities and take part in bespoke action research.

You’ll plan and deliver excellent science lessons on a consistent basis in a context of collegial support and coaching. Only then can you set clear targets and ensure perpetual improvement. Maintaining a positive, well-behaved and challenged group of pupils will mean attending to both educational and social needs which will require impeccable interpersonal, communication and professional skills.

We’re looking for a good honours degree (preferably with a science specialism) and a commitment to further learning. Your experience might be from the primary, secondary, state or independent sector. Moreover, we are looking for enthusiastic, committed, energetic, well-organised and adaptable teachers with excellent resilience and communication skills and the ability to forge strong links with parents and the community.

We are also seeking professionals who are ambitious and looking for rapid promotion and CPD opportunities. If you are patient, resourceful optimistic and have a passion for science and sports then the rewards, small, friendly, supportive working environment and professional growth on offer are second to none.
