Class Teacher (Lower and Upper KS2)

Start Date: September 2019 – (training end of August)

Salary: Up to Spinal point 6 or more with responsibilities

Paxton Academy Sports and Science opened in September 2014 with just Reception pupils and has been growing year on year. We currently have up to year 4 pupils. We aim to deliver a core offer to our pupils which includes a wide array of learning opportunities through our extended provision and successful partnerships with other schools and organisations. Our curriculum is biased towards the teaching of our specialisms, ‘sports and science’ where the teaching of health and well-being is key. In addition pupils benefit from specialist teaching in modern foreign languages.

Pupils will leave us equipped with a firm grasp of key basic skills, a broad knowledge base and personal interests, shared moral values, excellent communication skills and the tools to be successful in secondary school and beyond.

With an extended day provision, our expectations are high, both of our pupils and our teaching staff and with this, there is a collective drive for all-round excellence from the whole school community.

This is a rare chance to help settle, mould and motivate children as they progress throughout the academy and there are plenty of opportunities for leadership roles as the academy grows. In order to stimulate pupils and deliver high quality lessons, you’ll need to be up-to-date with current developments in the revised NC, particularly in English, maths, science, computing and sport as well as having an understanding of the EYFS. Some knowledge/experience of delivering the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) would also be advantageous as well as experience preparing pupils for the KS2 SATs.

Ensuring success across a range of abilities and backgrounds will take an understanding of resources, ICT and the classroom environment. Alongside your classroom teaching, you’ll also be expected to make a contribution to our integrated enrichment activities and take part in bespoke action research.

You’ll plan and deliver excellent lessons on a consistent basis in a context of collegial support and coaching. Only then can you set clear targets and ensure perpetual improvement. Maintaining a positive, well-behaved and challenged group of pupils will mean attending to both educational and social needs which will require impeccable interpersonal, communication and professional skills.

We’re looking for a good honours degree and a commitment to further learning. Your experience might be anywhere in Lower and Upper KS2 and might also include preparation and administration of SATS. More than that, we are looking for enthusiastic, committed, energetic, well-organised and adaptable teachers with excellent resilience and communication skills and the ability to forge strong links with parents and the community.

We are also seeking professionals who are ambitious and looking for rapid promotion and CPD opportunities. If you are patient, resourceful, resilient, optimistic and have a passion for science and sports then the reward – a friendly, supportive working environment and professional growth through our partnership with a leading teaching school (The Wandle Teaching Alliance).
